Two users each dial a valid phone number at the same time. The cellphones are so mounted as to allow the two dialed parties to carry on the conversation with each other. "Wei" ("Hello" in Mandarin) is the greeting to start a telephone conversation in Chinese. This is a very interesting speech phenomenon. The work acts as a third-party communication tool, allowing two stranger parties to carry on a conversation. Certainly the suspicion and misunderstanding that the other side dialed the wrong number are always present. Nevertheless, they still invariably use "Hello" as a greeting word. Such greetings between strangers on streets are almost non-existent. The work attempts to experiment with a dramatic way of communication that is possible only in the context of telephone. |
