(Extra)ordinary sayings about sound #10

by lawrence

arbyth: So you see, the initials of (the Chinese experimental label) Little Sound are ‘ls’, which happens to be that Unix command. (to list all files within a directory.)

GNO: Yeah, why?

arbyth: Nothing, it’s just kinda funny: what Little Sound has been doing with their releases is like ‘ls-ing’ all the Chinese sound artists.

Lona Records in action once again

by lawrence

Listen Up: When the Plug is On is a ‘multimedia exhibition’ organized by Lona Records, one of the major experimental music entrepreneurs in Hong Kong. It runs for two weeks from March 1st to 14th in Log-on. I don’t know what kind of venue Log-on is, but it’s located in Festival Walk 又一城, a famous mall in Kowloon Tong - quite legendary actually, as the renowned scholar Leo Lee Ou-fan 李欧梵 titles one of his books Rhapsody on Festival Walk《又一城狂想曲》. Seems that malls in Hong Kong are pretty keen on turning part of their spaces into temporary exhibition venue, I saw one with installations and paintings last time at Langham Place 朗豪坊 last time.

The exhibition features a sound installation by Mr. I, a painting by Wilson Tsang (also an electronic musician), and a video work by Doming. On March 3 there will be an opening concert featuring Sin:Ned, Wilson Tsang, No One Pulse and Shenzhen sound artist ZenLu 陆正.

Here’s the flyer, right-click to save the full-sized original to your hard drive.

I hope I can get around to translate Li Jianhong’s Japan diaries soon - he played a few gigs there earlier last month. In the meantime, you can enjoy the photos.
