The Wire’s review of Sin:ned
by lawrenceApart from being a writer of music, Sin:ned is also a musician - another case of reviewer-turned-player among Chinese new music personas besides YAN Jun. Sin:ned’s 3′ CDR release Uroborus: A Study On No-Input Device at Lona Records was recently reviewed by The Wire (issue # 271), here’s a scan of it that I grabbed from Sin:ned’s blog.

As you can see, this is another piece of evidence of The Wire’s declining quality. It seems that not only has Mr. Byron Coley never heard of the works of Toshimaru Nakamura, but he also lacks the basic knowledge about electronic music and the patience for fact checking. Sin:ned wrote in his blog post:
(in translation)
Interestingly, even esteemed magazines such as The Wire has mistakes:
1. Sin:ned does not equal Lona. Lona is a record label that released Uroborus: A Study On No-Input Device.
2. Uroborus: A Study On No-Input Device was made with computer and audio software, not home-made device. For more info, please visit the website of Lona Records.
Anyway, it’s still a thrill to see my own work being mentioned by The Wire.
For those who want to know, Sin:ned’s second release at Lona Records - also a 3-inch CDR - will hit the shelves on Sep 7. The title will be 60 Seconds: A Schizophrenic Manual for Eternity. Click here for more info in both English and Chinese.
